Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. The Carlsbad Village Street Faire is held on the first Sundays of May and November, so it lands the very next morning, Nov. 1. On Saturday the Village fills up with trick-or-treating families until 4 p.m. On Sunday those blocks become the faire, which its official site says draws crowds of more than 100,000.
Doing everything isn't realistic. The useful question is when to be in the Village and how to get there. The event times stagger well enough that a family can see Día de los Muertos inland, trick-or-treat downtown, and still have Sunday morning free for the faire.
Saturday starts inland, at Leo Carrillo Ranch
Carlsbad's free Día de los Muertos celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, 6200 Flying Leo Carrillo Lane. It doesn't require registration. The park sets up a traditional ofrenda dedicated to the Carrillo family, and the city's schedule puts most of the action in the morning:
| Time | At Leo Carrillo Ranch |
|---|---|
| 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Historic adobe ranch house open and decorated for the holiday |
| 10 a.m. to noon | Storytelling in the historic hacienda |
| 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Face painting |
| 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Arts and crafts, community ofrenda, photo ops, food and drink for purchase |
| 11 a.m. | Ballet Folklorico de Tapatio de San Dieguito |
| 12:30 p.m. | Grupo Bella, family-friendly concert |
The city lists additional parking at Carrillo Elementary School. It also notes that activities may be modified or canceled if the weather turns.
The 2 p.m. finish is what makes the day work. Halloween in the Village runs until 4 p.m., so a family can catch the ballet folklorico at 11, leave after Grupo Bella's 12:30 set, and still have time downtown. A family that sees the ranch only on Saturday also has more time with it. Leo Carrillo Ranch stays decorated through Nov. 2, and visitors are welcome during regular park hours to see the holiday decor. That makes Monday a quieter option for anyone who'd rather spend Saturday morning in the Village.
The Village gets busy by early afternoon
Halloween in the Village runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 and is spread across several Village addresses. The stops worth knowing before you arrive:
- 2691 State Street is the starting point, and the first 250 kids there get a pumpkin candy bucket.
- Participating Village businesses handle trick-or-treating, which Phoenix Sports sponsors. Candy stops are marked with a Candy Corn icon.
- The Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad Village, 3115 Roosevelt Street, has carnival games, a bounce house, candy corn and popcorn, indoors and outdoors. It's free.
- Village Faire Shopping Center, 300 Carlsbad Village Drive, hosts the costume contest. Each age group, from toddlers ages 1 to 3 through teens ages 13 to 17, plus families or groups, has a Spookiest and a Most Creative category.
The bucket count is the one detail that changes the timing. A family coming from Leo Carrillo after 2 p.m. should plan on the games and the costume contest and assume the buckets are gone.
The Village has also added two places this year that suit a break between stops. Barons Market opened at 2800 Roosevelt Street by late August. It's the grocer's first Carlsbad store, with salad, hot soup, hot food and cookie bars, fresh sandwiches, and an outdoor patio for eating. That puts it on the same street as the Boys & Girls Club stop, which helps on a day when nobody wants to give up a parking spot. Carlsbad Village Books, which has Marla's Coffee inside, opened July 2 at 640 Grand Ave.
After 4 p.m., the weekend shifts to older crowds and other parts of town
The Village program ends at 4. The Forum Carlsbad runs its Halloween Spooktacular from 2 to 5 p.m. with trick-or-treating, characters, games and music. That gives families who started late, or who live closer to the Forum, a second window that overlaps the Village's last two hours.
After dark, most listings are aimed at teens and adults:
- Cbar, 2917 State Street, hosts a Great Gatsby-themed Halloween party from 5 to 10 p.m.
- Omni La Costa has a ticketed Haunted Courtyard Spook-easy on Oct. 31 with cocktails and two entry times. The listing doesn't print the hours, so check them before booking.
- Carlsbad Strawberry Company, 1050 Cannon Road, runs a Haunted Corn Maze on Oct. 31 that it describes as best suited to teenagers and adults.
- The Camp Store, 7201 Carlsbad Boulevard, has a Halloween light show listed through Oct. 31, so Saturday is its last night.
Inland, LEGOLAND California's Brick-or-Treat has Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 on its official 2026 date list. It's included with tickets for event dates. Because it runs both days, a family that skips Saturday's events can still trick-or-treat on Sunday while the Village is taken up by the faire.
Sunday morning, State and Roosevelt host the faire
The Street Faire opens at 8 a.m. and wraps up at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. That's one hour shorter than the May edition, which ran until 5. Kennedy Faires produces the event for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. It covers several blocks centered on Grand Avenue between Carlsbad Boulevard and Jefferson Street.
The overlap with Saturday is mostly in the geography. The State Street and Roosevelt Street addresses that hosted trick-or-treating sit in the area that closed to cars for recent faires. Road closures for the May 2026 faire covered Grand Avenue, Washington Street, State Street, Roosevelt Street, Madison Street and Christiansen Way. The closures also started early last fall. For the November 2025 faire, the Village Association listed closures from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Grand Avenue, on stretches of State, Roosevelt, Madison and Washington, and on Christiansen Way up to the Coaster station entrance. Those were last year's times. As of Carlsbad Current's Sept. 1 report, the official road closure map and shuttle details for this November had not been released.
In practice, any car left in the Village Saturday evening could be stuck behind barricades before dawn Sunday. The 2026 hours aren't confirmed, so check before you park downtown on Halloween night.
The vendor count also depends on which source you read. Kennedy Faires' event page lists more than 750 vendors. The city's April 2026 update, cited by Carlsbad Current, described more than 900. Either count means a lot of booths in a short day. One other detail is still open. The Carlsbad Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast returned in May with BSA Troop 784, but its November return hadn't been announced as of September.
Getting to the faire without parking in the Village
Kennedy Faires notes that parking for the event is limited and encourages visitors to use the free shuttles, which have run every 15 minutes. For the May 2026 faire, the city ran free shuttles from two places:
- The Shoppes at Carlsbad, 2525 El Camino Real, near Highway 78 and Jefferson
- Poinsettia Coaster Station, 6511 Avenida Encinas, off the Poinsettia exit from I-5
Kennedy Faires' own page, which lists the Nov. 1 date, names the same two pickup points, with The Shoppes stop at the northwest corner of Marron Road and Monroe Street. Carlsbad Current reported on Sept. 1 that official shuttle details for November had not yet been released, so those pickup points are likely but not officially confirmed for this faire. The faire's official site, carlsbadvillagefaire.com, and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce at (760) 931-8400 are the places to confirm it.
Rail is the other option. NCTD says the Coaster runs 20 daily trips on Saturdays and Sundays year-round. Bus riders should know that NCTD's alert page lists BREEZE Route 101 stop closures at Hwy. 101/Grandview, Bishops Gate and La Costa Avenue through about 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 1. Those closures aren't tied to the faire, but they affect the same Sunday. Check NCTD's service alerts closer to the weekend for any faire-specific changes.
Why planning ahead matters this year
The Village's fall events have filled up fast. Taste of Carlsbad Village on Oct. 8 sold out in 33 minutes, according to the Carlsbad Village Association. More than 20 restaurants signed on this year, including Campfire, Jalisco Cantina, Knockout Pizza, Shoots Fish & Beer and Stella Jean's. Unlike Taste, Halloween in the Village, Día de los Muertos and the Street Faire don't sell tickets. With them, the limits are buckets, parking spots and street access, and those run out earliest.
If the Halloween weekend feels like too much, the fall season continues after Nov. 1. Carlsbad Strawberry Company's pumpkin patch is listed through Nov. 8. The 2026 Cannon Biennial, themed "everywhere home," runs at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, 1775 Dove Lane, through Jan. 3, 2027, with a public reception on Nov. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. New Village Arts' musical adaptation of As You Like It runs through Nov. 29.
Event details can change before Oct. 31, so confirm times on the official pages the week of.
